Arctic council

The Arctic Council was established in 1996 after Ottawa Declaration. Its headquarters is located in Tromso, Norway. The eight Council members of the Arctic Council are: Russia, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Canada and America. Currently Arctic Council is a member of Iceland. In the Arctic Council, 13 non-Arctic countries have also been included, these countries are invited for council meetings, but these countries do not get voting rights. 

Work 

This is a high intergovernmental forum, it works to solve the problems of Arctic countries. Its purpose is to promote coordination, cooperation and interaction. Environmental security and sustainable development in the Arctic sector are its main objectives.

World Thalassemia Day is celebrated?

World Thalassemia Day is celebrated on 8th May every year. This year, World Thalassemia Day theme is "universal access to quality healthcare for thalassemia". Its purpose is to spread awareness about thalassemia (a genetic disease) and to take necessary steps to prevent it. 
 

What is Thalassemia? 
Thalassemia is a blood genetic disorder. Disease due to hemoglobin and lack of blood cells due to this disease. Thalassemia can happen to a person only when one of his parents suffers from thalassemia.

Thalassemia occurs due to the absence of genetic effects and some of the essential gene fragments. Due to hemoglobin deficiency in the patient, oxygen transport is also reduced in the body and red blood cells are destroyed due to which anemia (anemia) occurs. This increases the amount of iron in the body. In many cases, patients with bone disorders and in rare cases also have a risk of heart disease. 

The skin of the person suffering from thalassemia becomes light yellow. A person suffering from thalassemia may have to face difficulties in development, the patient with thalassemia also feels severe fatigue. Due to genetic disease, it is very difficult to prevent, this disease can be detected by blood test. 

What is the risk of thalassemia?
The risk of thalassemia is quite high for those whose family has a thalassemia in advance. This disease is more common in the Mediterranean people (Italian, Greek and Middle Eastern) and South Asian people. 


Treatment

It can be treated by blood transfusion and chelation therapy. In children it can be treated by Bone Marrow Transplant. But some of these symptoms appear after childhood and adolescence.
