Govt. Mizoram Law College was established in 1983 with a humble beginning, having the name of Aizawl Law College with the initiatives of some prominent citizens, academic and politicians. The College is affiliated to Mizoram University and recognized by Section 2(f) & 12B of UGC Act, 1956. At the time, the college is also affiliated to the Bar Council of India, New Delhi. The IGNOU School of Law has also been activating its programme in Govt. Mizoram Law College as IGNOU Study Centre No.1934.
Government Mizoram Law College is located in the western part of the Aizawl City, at the adjacent of Govt. Ch. Chhunga High School, Luangmual, near the YHAI Hostel. It is on the side of the main road leading to Mizoram University
