Nearly 95% of the 6,000 employees of Mantralaya will get their salary for August through their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
After successfully linking 17 salary accounts in the department of the information technology as part of the pilot project, the government has now decided to use the Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB) system for all Mantralaya employees.
“Nearly 95% of the Mantralaya employees have enrolled for the Aadhaar system and are ready for the linkage of their cards to the salary accounts. This would not just help in speedy transfer of salaries, but will also ensure the transfer to the actual beneficiary at a later stage,” said a source from the general administration department.
“In the next phase, the employees in the collector offices will be covered in the scheme, which will further extend to teachers of aided schools. The government has been losing out on hundreds of crores of rupees because of bogus beneficiaries,” he said.
Maharashtra has become the first state to link Aadhaar to its employees’s salaries.
Rajesh Aggarwal, IT secretary, said, “The Aadhaar numbers were first mapped with employee details. The bank in which the salary was to be deposited was informed about it. The information was seeded and mapped by the National Payment Corporation of India before the final payment.”
