  • In this program, 102 non-attainment cities of 23 States and Union Territories have been included. These cities have been selected by the Central Pollution Control Board on the basis of air quality between 2011 and 2015.

The cities are non- Attainment cities, where according to national standards air quality is continuously bad. The list of non-attainment cities includes Delhi, Varanasi, Bhopal, Calcutta, Noida, Muzaffarpur and Mumbai such big cities.

  • Under this program, the Centre has decided to spread the monitoring network for the measurement of the quality of air across the country.
  • 102 Non- Attainment cities will study the factors of pollution and their contribution.
  • The Supreme Committee of the Environment Ministry will continue to review the progress of pollution factors from time to time on the basis of appropriate indicators.
  • Based on pollution factors, each city will be asked to prepare an action plan for implementation.
  • Under this program real-time data collection and three-level system will be used and research of clean air technology will be encouraged.
  • States will have to work in the field of e-mobility and emphasize the charging infrastructure and strictly follow BS-VI rules. States will have to give more public transport to their level. However, this program is not legally binding for the states. Environmentalists have demanded that the program be legally binding. Taking strong measures to protect the health of crores of people from pollution is very important.
