The Orissa Maritime Academy (OMA), an autonomous body under Govt. of Orissa, was established in the year 1993. It was founded by Padmabhushan Sri Ramakanta Rath, IAS, Ex- Chief Secretary to Government of Orissa with active support of the then Chief Minister of Orissa, Late Biju Pattnaik. It is duly approved by the Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India, Mumbai. It was the first Maritime Academy to conduct G. P. Rating Course on regular basis. The aim of the Academy was to train meritorious, but economically backward students (male & female) for the Merchant Navy. From its inception, it is functioning as a non- profitable institute. The Academy has been registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860 and is ISO 9001: 2008 certified.
Location: The Academy is located at Paradip Port town. The Academy has enough space for Classroom, Recreation space, Library, Office, Workshop, Computer Laboratory, Dining Hall, Gallery and accommodation for the trainees. There are spaces for playground and sports activities.
