Exam Details

Indian Maritime University (IMU) conducts a Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) every year on All India basis for admissions to its courses for IMU campuses and Affiliated Institutes. As perDGS Training Circular 12 of 2020 dated 01.04.2020, all MTIs regulated by DGShipping are required to admit candidates on the basis of IMU-CET makingIMU-CET mandatory for admission to DGS approved Courses.

Hence Candidates seeking admission in Diploma in Nautical Science, B.Sc (Nautical Science) and B.E/B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) to any MTI (Govt. or Private Affiliated to any University) are required to qualify in IMU-CET.

Exam Pattern

The Online CET will consist of multiple choice questions as given below:

a) CET for UG : 200 questions

b) CET for MBA : 100 questions

c) CET for M Tech : 100 questions

The multiple choice questions will be set from the following topics:

(a) UG program

  • B.Tech (Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering)
  • B.Sc. (Nautical Science, Maritime Science, Ship Building and Repair)
  • Diploma (Nautical Science)

Subjects- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, General Knowledge and Aptitude at Plus 2 level (CBSE, ISE and State Boards).

(b) CETs for PG program

  • MBA – Quantitative ability, Data interpretation, Verbal ability and Logical reasoning.
  • M.Tech - English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Mathematics and General Engineering.

Eligibility

1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) Program leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science)

 i) 10+2/equivalent (PCM - a minimum of 60% aggregate)

Or

ii) B.Sc (PCM)/ B.Sc (Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years) with a minimum of 60% aggregate.

Or

iii) B.E./B.Tech from IIT or college recognised by AICTE with a minimum of 50% aggregate

Note: English Marks are to be 50% or more in any one of the above examination. In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English Marks.

3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science)- 10+2/equivalent (PCM - a minimum of 60% aggregate & English - a  Minimum of 50%)

4-Year B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engg)- 10+2/equivalent (PCM -60% & English- 50%).

2-Year MBA - International Transportation and Logistics  Management, Port & Shipping

Management-A bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate from Recognized Universities. A minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th/12th/UG Degree.

Note: In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English Marks.

2-Year M.Tech - Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering ,  Dredging and Harbour Engineering  -Graduate Engineering in Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical / Marine / Naval Architecture or equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate.

Note: In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks.

For U.G Programs

i) Minimum age 17 years

ii) Maximum age 25 Years

For Scheduled Castes (SC) & Schedule Tribe candidates (ST) Candidates maximum age relaxation is for five (5) years.

Reservations of Seats

i) Candidates - 15% Quota

ii) OBC candidates - 27% should be part of Non Creamy layer

iii) ST - 7.5%

iv) DA candidates - 3%

Any candidate who is applying for the reserved category should have valid caste certificate as per Govt. of India.

Physical Fitness

Candidates who are applying for all these courses needs to comply with medical standards of D.G. Shipping and they have to go through a medical exam, before appearing for the counseling

Eye Sight

For DGS-approved courses viz DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Sc (Maritime Science) & B.Tech (Marine Engg), there should not be any degree of squint or any morbid condition of eyes or of the eyelids that is liable to aggravate or recur, pressure of trachoma and iris complication sequela

Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes)

Candidates joining DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science) & B.Sc (Maritime Science) degree course colour vision shall (unaided 1.0 (6/6) in better eye and 0.67 (6/9) in other eye.

  • Rs. 1,000/- for General candidates and
  • Rs.700/- for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates. Application Fee has to be paid online only.

The cut-off for IMU-CET 2023 and other exams as mentioned above in entry mechanism will be fixed by IMU before counselling and announced in the IMU website. Candidates scoring marks equal or more than cut-off can apply in counselling portal. The counselling portal will be readied after release of IMUCET rank list. Candidates wishing to apply through entry mechanism other than IMU-CET 2023 need to apply in the counselling portal and need not apply in the IMU-CET 2023 registration portal.
