The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) has been established by the Government of Assam by Assam Act, 2009 (Assam Act No. XXV of 2009). It was School laterr the word 'School' was replaced by the word 'University' by amending the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam (Amendment) Act, 2011. The University is affiliated to theUGC under Section 12(B) and 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, the Bar Council ofIndia (BCI) and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
National Law University and Judicial Academy and Judicial Academy, Assam has been ranked 16th among Indian Universities, in thedomain of Law, by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), 2020.
